Video: Gender Diversity Call
Last week Cate presented on 3 things we can all do to make our private practices gender inclusive. As a community, we collectively donated $440 to Ruth Ellis Center, which creates safe spaces and services for LGBTQ+ youth.
One thing Cate said—which I really loved—was,
“The final thing is very basic and. . .might seem sort of easy, almost too easy, but it’s actually surprisingly difficult and I would say that is: really listen to your patients, be radically open to their experience.”
The 3 things Cate outlined were:
Check your administrative processes, forms and office spaces to ensure gender inclusive language and spaces are in place.
Seek out continuing education trainings from trans and queer organizations and clinicians, and widen the scope of what you consider continuing education to include novels, TV shows and other media showcasing or written by trans and non-gender-conforming characters.
Listen to what your client tells you about themselves and be radically open to all the intricacies, complexities and contradictions of their subjective experience.
I also provided the below social media posts that I’m happy to share so you can modify them to fit your personal/professional values and beliefs and then post on Instagram, Facebook and more.
