Event: 3 Ways to Make your EBP Relational & Justice-Oriented

Let’s come together to learn about power, privilege and white supremacy and how they show up in the therapy room. At this month’s Workshop/Fundraiser on April 22nd, 6-7pm, Karen Hixson, PhD will be teaching 3 Ways to Make Your Evidence-Based Practices Relational & Justice-Oriented.

From her website, Karen Hixson has been a mental health counselor in Portland, Oregon since 2002 with a focus on social justice and anti-oppression based perspectives. She supervises early career counselors. . . Karen completed her PhD in Counseling at Oregon State University in 2016. Her dissertation is entitled Understanding Power in the Therapeutic Relationship.

If time allows, I’ll add to what Karen teaches and discuss how it looks on the business end of things, where just as much harm or hurt can happen.

In light of the current court hearing regarding George Floyd’s death, we’ll be pausing in the middle to donate to Color of Change, which states, (again, from their website): We design campaigns powerful enough to end practices that unfairly hold Black people back, and champion solutions that move us all forward. Until justice is real.

Looking forward to creating therapeutic and social change with you all.
