Self-Compassion as a Business Tool

This week I had two consults not turn into clients. I used the wrong slide show for an important university presentation. I accidentally shared WhatsApp when sharing my screen with a supervisee (don't worry, they didn't see anything personal).

And not all weeks go this well. :)

Running a business is a very human endeavor. It's a lot of emotional labor at times.

This week in Create Opportunity we talked about self-compassion (and listened to the tender self-compassion break), and it made me think about how it's such an important business tool.

Self-compassion is basically 3 steps:

  1. Turning toward the difficulty in an accepting way

  2. Remembering that difficulty is part of being a human (I like to tell myself that other people are experiencing this right now too)

  3. Saying the kindest thing you can think of to yourself regarding your situation

Self-compassion isn't just a nice thing to do. It is linked to resilience and mental health. Business owners who practice self compassion are more likely to:

  • learn from experiences

  • bounce back from challenges

  • make better decisions for themselves and their businesses

It's a soft skill, but seems to be one of the most important ones I've found. Do you have a certain self-compassion practice that fuels your business? I'd love to hear about it.

PS: The waitlist is open for our upcoming cohorts of Create Opportunity. I hope you'll join us.
