When You Get Stuck

If you're building a private practice, or growing a business of any sort, it's a good sign if you get stuck.

Getting stuck means you're stretching, pushing past the norms of business, or at least pushing past your own comfort zone.

I mean this kindly: I hope you get stuck.

And when you do, here are two helpful things:

A. Go back to your WHY.

I remember meeting my friend Natalia at a local coffee shop in the early days with my (then) 3 year old in tow. I was discouraged and exhausted, and mentioned I didn't know what I was doing. She encouraged me to consider my why, and listed off a few things off that she could see. It got me back on course. I think it will help you too. Why did you start your business? What do you need, what do others need, that you are currently creating? Your why matters. Let your creativity remind you of your vision.

B. Listen to Tara Brach!

She's the queen of turning towards your vulnerability as a way of coming home to yourself. Building a business is so incredibly vulnerable. The only way through is to turn toward that awful discomfort, the awful stuck-ness. Here's a talk of hers I've liked recently.

Here’s to getting unstuck!
