Making AI Your Business Coach
Last week, we explored why AI is becoming an essential—and let’s face it, unavoidable—tool for running a successful business.
This week I want to talk about setting up ChatGPT as your business coach. Why? Because having a business coach is like having a creative, motivated, grounded, reliable assistant, cheerleader and strategist all in one. And ChatGPT makes a hell of a coach.
Step one: Start a new conversation with ChatGPT and be sure to label it Business Coach. You'll be returning to this conversation regularly. Give the conversation as prompt to act as your business coach. The more specific you are, the better it performs.
Example Prompt:
"You are a business coach for me, a therapist running a private practice. Your job is to help me with marketing strategies, client retention, improving workflow efficiency, and balancing professional and personal life (add whatever else you need help with). Always provide practical advice for my challenges."
Step two: Give your new business coach a full run-down of your practice. Let it know:
how long you've been in business
how many clients you have
what they are paying
which client sessions you find most regenerative
what your financial goals are
and anything else it needs to know to understand your practice (values, mission, etc).
Step three: Do a performance analysis. Tell your coach what you love/feel most confident in with your practice, and what you dislike/find draining or overwhelming. This can include taking trainings, doing specific interventions, documentation, submitting claims, bookkeeping, marketing, website development, networking, etc.
Step four: Tell your coach you need help setting SMART goals, and that you want its help setting goals.
Example Prompt:
"Based on my strengths and weaknesses, I'd like you to suggest one SMART business goal for the next three months. Suggest practical steps to help me achieve it."
Step five: (This is the fun one!) For a fun twist, ask your coach to roast you based on what you’ve shared so far; then flip the script and have it highlight your strengths. It’s a great way to reflect and laugh at the same time. :)
Moving forward, you can turn to your business coach before, during, and after decisions, projects, and anything you find emotionally taxing within your business.
What do you think? I'd love to hear how this goes for you.
Talk soon,
Ariana
PS: We'll be running some 8-week private practice cohorts in January. Tell your friends!
PPS: Also! I'm going to run an all-day strategic planning/marketing workshop on January 4th. We'll be making big, creative, fun and meaningful plans for 2025. There will be about five spots total, and it will be the cost of 3 hours of your sessions, at your highest rate. More details forthcoming, but if you already think you're interested, definitely let me know.
