I Want You to Earn Six Figures

This Thursday we're talking about money, and I really hope you'll join the conversation. It's a free fundraising workshop, and if you apply some of what you learn, it will change your financial situation next year. Sign up here!

I care about your earning potential for 2022! Why?

The average social worker, therapist or counselor earns between $20-30/hour from an employer during their first five years or more. That's about $40-60k annually.

The average insurance reimbursement rate for a 1 hour therapy session is between $70-200/hr. Many of the clinicians I supervise in community mental health have a caseload of at least 70 people, and are booked out completely.

The math is not adding up.

Let's do our own math. 52 weeks in a year minus 12 for vacation/sick days/client cancellations. 40 work weeks x 25 client sessions equals 1000. Give yourself a low average of a session at $100, and that equals about $100,000. Want to earn over $100K? Increase out of pocket rates, get better insurances to contract with (Oregon Health Plan, the medicaid program here in Oregon, reimburses at about $145/hr) or start doing groups and workshops.

It's do-able.

Here's why I want you to earn 6 figures:

  • Reason #1: It's simple math. You've worked hard to get here. You deserve it.

  • Reason #2: Your employer is sure as hell making much more than $100k, and I'll be damned if you, as a therapist, don't deserve at least that. (Yes, I do feel angry about this).

  • Reason #3: Because I know that you would use the abundance that comes with financial health to take such good care of yourself, and better serve your clients, family, friends, and community.

  • Reason #4: Because you can. And if you have that kind of power, and you know many who do not, I say use the power and privilege. Don't shy away from it; instead look at wealth redistribution opportunities.

  • Reason #5: Your compensation should reflect the way your services impact the economy. By going to therapy, your client is increasing their earning potential and saving costs. It's financially benefiting them to keep their mental health/relationships/well-being in place. You are also saving various systems from increased costs (emergency rooms, hospital beds, etc.) through your client services.

Are you convinced?

Come join us this Thursday at our free fundraising workshop. We'l be talking about money and private practice. We'll engage in a little wealth redistribution for Owl's Nest Youth Services. Let's create transparency around money, and subsequently decrease the power structures and power imbalances that uphold our current systems.

If you're interested in creating your own financial system by starting a private practice and want develop your practice based on liberation-oriented values, come join me. I'm starting two cohorts in January and you'll get your practice set up in a community of great support. Applications open this Friday!

Does this rub you the wrong way? Leave you with questions? Excite you? Hit reply, let me know. I'm so passionate about this topic and always happy to engage in conversation around it.
